FTC Solar Inc is looking for a technically strong mechanical engineer to design, develop and test mechanical aspects of the tracker development leveraging their solar industry and/or tracker experience. You will work in a fast-paced environment, within the Tracker Technology group, developing intellectual property and the next generation tracker. We are looking for someone to take an idea, develop the idea in SolidWorks and refine the idea with FEA tools (i.e. MSC Apex, Nastran & Adams). You will work collaboratively with internal groups and external international suppliers in different time zones. You will use your experience to solve problems, develop and execute on the design objectives and affect short and long-term business goals and strategy of the team.


  • Develop component and assembly technology to optimize the tracker system for reliability and costWork with procurement team to ensure timely release of Purchase Orders to maintain project schedulesAdhere to the phase gate development process with measurable metrics for scheduleand cost targets
  • Properly document the engineering deliverables and lead design reviews
  • Perform field analysis and document the change via an Engineering Change Notice
  • Serve as a lead technical engineer to help others learn and contribute while maintaining a positive team atmosphere
  • Interface with key certifying organizations and provide support with requested technical data
  • Interface with manufacturing partners and ensure the tracker can be productized and produced at scale
  • Ensure safe practices are used to build prototypes and learn from them
  • Willing to listen to inputs from the team, and then including the good ones into the product
  • Above all, this person should be an engineer at heart, with problem-solving skills that are timely and creative


  • BS Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have part, assembly, drawing, configuration management, and PDM experience utilizing SolidWorks
  • Must have developed and had experience in designing mechanical components of machinery and analyzed them to evalute performance via FEA tools
  • Minimum 10 years of development experience from a leading company
  • A team player with strong interpersonal, influential and leadership skills
  • Creative, self-starter and independent
  • Ability to cope with multiple complex situations and emergent priorities daily
  • Exceptional communication skills to sync with internal and external parties
  • Structural analysis experience and applying building code knowledge is preferred
  • Solar Industry tracker experience is preferred
  • Experience working in a multinational company is preferred
